So, I’ve gone through a lot recently.
Let me tell you, the second half of this year has been absolutely crazy. As most of you know, I moved to a completely different state back in late May. As most of you don’t know my grandfather, very unexpectedly, passed away last month. If you’ve experienced that I don’t need to tell you it’s completely heartbreaking and if you haven’t count your blessings. To top it all off, I turned 25 last week so now I’m at LEAST a quarter of the way through with my life.
Whoa, heavy stuff.
Tell me about it. It’s been such a major transition starting a new career and juggling all of the things that come with living in a bigger city. Along with all of the other crazy and unexpected things happening in my life right now my skin has totally suffered. You might think it’s a bit vein to be thinking of skincare when so much else in life and the world is wrong but let me tell you, it’s hard to feel like yourself when you look in the mirror and see that something obviously isn’t right. Think about it, everyday for the past few months I’ve been dragging myself out of bed, trying to deal with everything, just to look in the mirror and see my shriveled up face. Not the best way to get over trauma. A little self centered, perhaps, but it’s my reality. Can anyone else relate?
So what did you do?
I got help. How it truly worked out was I was trying a few things on my own and the my mom stepped in and fixed everything because she’s amazing and can make any situation better. Even struggling with her own grief she fixed my problems and if that’s not a true definition of a mom then please tell me what is.
Anyway, with a little help from my mom (and these skincare brands) I’ve been able to successfully combat my dry skin issues. And that’s what I’m here to share with you today. Since moving to a new state, my previous skincare routine just wasn’t cutting it. It didn’t give me enough moisture and my face looked and felt like sandpaper. It was itchy, irritated and would get tiny bumps almost like an allergic reaction. I finally came to the conclusion that it was time to switch up my skincare. Introducing…
The Products Are Saving My Skin

So I changed everything little by little. I stared with changing my cleanser. I’ve recently been using the Tula Cult Classic cleanser. I did quite a bit of research when I was looking into this product and found it was supposed to be good for dry skin. While I do think my moisturizers have been the true hero, this cleanser doesn’t leave my face feeling tight and dry. The bottle says it has superfoods (which I don’t exactly know what means) but is has really made a difference in the way my skin feels. Now, instead of feeling like sandpaper, it’s closer to the soft and radiant state it was in before I moved.
The Daily Moisturizer.
At my new job, I have a coworker that just started selling Mary Kay products. I had heard of Mary Kay before, my mom sold it when I was very young, and knew of the brand’s reputation for supporting and empowering women. To be honest though, I thought it was more of an “old lady” line of products. But, after going to my coworkers Mary Kay party and using some of the products, I am SUPER impressed. I started using their gel moisturizer day and night and have seen so much of an improvement of my skin. It has hyaluronic acid which skincare professionals refer to as “giving your skin a drink of water” so it’s very moisturizing. It also sits lightly on your skin so it doesn’t feel heavy.
The Once A Week Mask.
Keeping on the Mary Kay trend, I also picked up their deep cleansing charcoal mask. The Mary Kay rep says it goes like three layers deep into your skin to remove impurities unlike other masks. She might have been hyping it up a bit but I have noticed a difference in how clear my complexion looks. I do this mask once a week and (life hack) use the Mary Kay brush to apply it. Using a brush is so much less messy, easier to apply and makes the experience much more enjoyable.
The Eye Cream.
I’ve been told since my teen years that it’s never too early to start fighting wrinkles. As a teen I rolled my eyes at that saying a bit more but now that I’m a quarter of a century old, I take it a bit more seriously. I haven’t really used eye creams in the past but started using the Bare Minerals Ageless Genius eye cream and really enjoy it. It is light, moisturizing and makes my eyes look brighter. Who can complain?
The Deep Moisturizer.
Lastly, on days when I just can’t seem to get enough moisture into my skin I turn to this baby. The Butter Drench from Bare Minerals has been absolutely fantastic for me in restoring my skin. I started using this as a daily moisturizer when my dry skin was out of control and this is really the one that saved my face. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is struggling with dry skin. It’s a heavier cream that really gets deep into your skin to bring life back into it. And who suggested this to me? You guessed it, my mom.
So there you have it!
Those are all the skincare products I’m using to help myself get back to normal. And a quick aside for anyone who needs to read this, it’s okay to feel not okay. Life really sucks sometimes and there isn’t anything we can do to control outside forces. What we can do is reach out to God, the people who love us and connect to things that make us feel like a person. So reach out if you’re struggling with something and know that eventually, life does get better.
